Planning On Paddling

I'm starting this thread as way of people to post when they plan on being at CCWwP. This may end up being a bunch of posts by me saying I'll be there on random days and no response but that is ok. Hope to see everyone on the water soon.

I plan on paddling tomorrow March 25th at 11:00ish til 2:00. I think a few ISUCK people are planning on being there too.

Strainer on Dam Drop

Looks to be a nasty strainer in the river right eddy. It must be hung up on picnic rock. Hopefully it stays visable or floats downstream safely as the river continues to rise. Just posting this incase it becomes submerged as a precaution. Be safe out there!

I figured I would post this here first. I am selling some equipment. would like to sell all together for $1,200, but will part out.

I have

Wavesport 2011 Project X 56 in Green great condition, has not seen a lot of use. Includes full foam outfitting kit, jackson happy feet asking $600

Snapdragon skirt, medium tube, L/XL size

(2) sweet strutter helmets. One is brand new in protective sock, in matte black (never been worn), the other has been used is a carbon finish. Asking $200 for both.

AT2 standard paddle in carbon fiber, only been used in pool sessions. Asking $275. 194 cm

Astral Green jacket, red/black color size s/m, includes tow rope and biners, as well as NRS co-pilot knife Asking $175

bomber gear dry top in red, s/m size very light usage, asking $150.

Nookie dry pants size small, never used, asking $100

Will do both pants and top together for $225, and will include NRS dry gloves (size small) for free

Not just the olympic slalom but the cc cam too. Since June I've seen kayakers on the cam. Post up when you'll be there and let's make it a party. Somebody's there right now. Looks like Lyle....who is it?

A lot of minnows schooled up everywhere. I caught one, couldn't + i.d. it but it looked like bass or walleye. If it's truely a game fish that's a very good indicator of things to come. I'm bringing my fishing pole with my super-top-secret lure and giving the area a try.

550 cfs+. Surfed all 3 drops numerous times. Doc's and Exit have a foam pile that should yield vert moves. Ty got some good surfs on DD and Doc's with his 7' Badfish. Looks like KIMT TV is doing another piece on the ww park.

Charles City Challenge: WhiteWater Weekend June 15-17 is anticipated to become a premier annual whitewater event which will attract top canoe, kayak, and stand up paddleboard talent from across the United States and Canada. Events will include: kayak rodeo, kayak down river race, kayak boater cross, kayak best trick, SUP down river race, SUP attainment, SUP best surf, canoe down river race, and canoe best surf. Opportunities for open boating will also allow river enthusiasts of all skill levels to experience the course.

In addition to fun on the river, Saturday’s events will include: a disc golf tournament, dog jog, downtown farmers market with live entertainment, and vendors in Riverfront Park. Other weekend events will include special Friday evening entertainment with Charles City’s popular summer festivity, Party in the Park, in Central Park featuring live music by The Rude Band along with food and beverage vendors and activities for kids of all ages.

Cool little Google/AW mapping trick

If you're going interstate and mapping your route with google maps....after the route pops up put this link into the google search box http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/state-summary/state/xx/.kml Replace the "xx" with the two letter state abbreviation then click enter. A new page with your route and any AW river descriptions will pop up. You can then click any dot for a name and link to that river description.

Post any new tips/tricks you discover while using this. I knew it existed but just didn't get around to trying it till now.

Double D looks awfully "SUPY"!

At these levels The Double D looks nice and SUPY! Real square across the back and tall. Seems like it's just about to break right now. Any beta on how deep the through is over the feature?
Clayhole is about as prefect as the level gets right now. Don't trust the gauge, it's phuct up and will be for a while yet. I'll be hitt-n it the next 2 days and this weekend fo sho.

WhiteWater Cams

The Charles City WhiteWater camera's are temporarily down. They've been intermittent since March 1. We have been working on this problem since then, and our volunteers hope to have this rectified by next week. We appreciate your understanding, and will post here when they are back up and running.

If you have interest in starting whitewater playboating I have some paddling packages available for you! With a beautiful spring thus far, summer is right around the corner. Charles City Whitewater Park, anyone?

The ISU Canoe & Kayak (ISUCK) Club is selling some used playboats and willing to package them with a paddle, pfd, helmet, and splash jackets.

If you want to get into the sport without spending the customary $1500-2000 to start whitewater playboating look no further.

"Today the Iowa House Appropriations Committee eliminated those funds (SF 2316 RIIF), as well as the Delhi $2.5M Delhi appropriation – which we are very supportive!
"
We lost $1 mil for statewide funding. $2.5M was voted out for a single user. Also in that message it stated folks from as far away as California were coming here to see CC. They must not have heard about the overseas visitors that have been to CC.

I made the 6 hr round trip just to see it.

I'm not bitching, I'm just saying...It would have been way better if there was some collaberation with CC Officials. Questions about economic impact, users per day, the latest improvements, upcoming events, future improvements, youtube links, iowa public television links, VIDEO OF THE GRAND OPENING....barely anything.

I'm not bitching....this is my formal evaluation of a presentation any presenter should expect.

I haven't seen any eval forms at the Canoe Sport event in all the years I've been there. So I'm putting my eval here.

Pool time/can anyone teach?

I'm new to whitewater kayaking. I have had a bit of experience with flat water, but am ready to get my own setup and really want to pursue whitewater.

I am currently getting my first setup, I have found I can get pool time in the Iowa city area for a decent price. Would anyone be willing to come teach me rolling, and some of the essentials. I would be willing to pay for the pool time, and may be able to throw some money your way for teaching.

Please let me know if you're interested.

Nantahala is always upgrading but after a dozen or more years they now have a "web cam". CC had a webcam from inception. They're 1600 miles apart. They're really no competition to each other but let's hope this association kicks up the CC ww momentum.

Recent work at the CC WW Park

Over the last few days, Charles City has been making some improvements to the WW Park. The big improvements = The river left "wing" forming Dam Drop has been re-terraced. The river right eddy below DD has been cleaned out. Some other improvements will be noticed at Doc's and Exit.

Something else they're working on is a full-sized slalom course with moveable gates. Kudos to Piper Wall.

Monday, they'll be grouting all the new rocks at DD and repairing an undercut at Exit.
